Can Alkaline Water Cure or Fight Cancer?

In August of 2013, Nancy Elizabeth Shaw, the founder of The Cancer Alternative Foundation published an article on GreedMedInfo titled, “Why An Alkaline Approach Can Successfully Treat Cancer.” She began by shining light on the fact that pH therapy to treat cancer goes back all the way to the 1930’s and isn’t new.

“My personal experience with pH therapy has been nothing short of spectacular.I have seen stage four, terminal cancer patients recover using alkalizing minerals…It is my direct personal experience that cancer can be controlled using alkaline minerals.”

Here’s how she really breaks the therapy down:

“The metabolism of cancer cells has a very narrow pH tolerance for cellular proliferation (mitosis), which is between 6.5 and 7.5. As such, if you can interfere with cancer cell metabolism by either lowering or raising the internal cancer cell pH, you can theoretically stop cancer progression.”

Great! That’s good when you’re increasing the acidity of specific cancerous cells, but increasing the overall acidity of a healthy body or one with cancer in it presents an assortment of problems. She goes on to say however, “Alkaline therapy for people is a “high pH therapy” and has been developed to normalize the intracellular pH of the cancer patient’s body through elimination of latent acidosis, while increasing the pH of cancer cells to a range above 7.5.  According to published research, it is at that pH they revert to a normal cellular apoptosis cycle (programed cell death).”

It should be noted however that she’s talking primarily of using an alkaline food-based diet and supplemental alkaline minerals. However, the argument could easily be made that in the absence of a dependable highly alkaline eating regimen and access to dense mineral content, ionized alkaline water may be just as good if not more effective.

Let’s turn now to BeatCancer.org and their article, What’s the Best Water to Drink? They’re at the forefront of cancer education and have studied prevention for over 30 years.

Here’s the basics:
“When water has been ionized, it is more alkaline, contains a higher oxygen to hydrogen ratio than normal H2O, has extra electrons (a healthful negative charge), and contains millions of natural antioxidant bubbles called hydroxyl ions, which are free radical scavengers.

Negative ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential), characteristic of ionized water and fresh uncooked foods, is beneficial to our body in that it decreases oxidation and aging.”

They then go on to cite many different studies including Japanese research that looked at 40,000 chickens. A controlled group was put on a regimen of mineralized alkaline water and after a month their mortality rate had plummeted, after two months their blood sugar was reduced by 35%…and “size and weight of cancerous tumors were 50% lower in the alkaline water group.”

Nobel Prize winning scientist and researcher Dr. Otto Warburg clearly demonstrated as cancerous cells and tumors thrive and grow in acidic environments back in 30’s as Nancy Shaw pointed out. We could go on and on.

Can we tell you for sure that drinking alkaline water and eating tons of alkaline foods will cure cancer or completely stave it off? No. But the research coming from all corners of the globe seems to indicate that the answer is yes.
